The Oberdrau Valley is the stage for the annual traditional rafting convention. Friends of the almost extinct job of raftsman meet here, to navigate one of the last unspoiled river regions in Central Europe. Adherents come to the meeting from Northern Italy, Austria and Germany. In the year 2000, the Drau Valley even held the first-ever raftsman’s world championship.
Young and old join in when the raftsmen, after they bind the rafts, make the journey through the Drau’s impressive wetlands. Those who want to come with can jump on one of the shaky wooden rafts. Those who want to stay safely on shore can accompany the rafts by bicycle. Highlights are the infamous raftsmens’ evenings, where the mood is good and strong spirits fill your glass.

The weekly rubber boat trips and barbeque parties with helmsman and grill master Felix are always an experience for guests of the Glocknerhof. The boat trips are completely hazard-free, though we still put a huge value on safety. There are of course rafting circuits, for those who prefer whitewater.
And then there is of course the century-old tradition of a Plättenschiff (flat-boat) trip on the Drau. Experience this wildly romantic waterway with its bays, clay banks and alder woods, leaving all troubles safely on-shore.
